Data protection Act 1998 (the Act)
We want assure you all your data is protected at TVT Mum this is why we have in place a Data Protection Policy. The Data Protection Act 1998 (the Act) provides safeguards for handling personal information about living and identifiable individuals.
If you decide to submit your stories or any other personal information to go onto our main website you can remain anon if you wish plus we omit doctors, surgeons or any other consultants names within the stories for several reasons, one is to keep your data safe and protected as we fully respect the fact the information provided is going out on the Worldwide web plus we don't disclose personal information as there may be an event for litigation. If you decide to share these details it was given to us with your permission and was given as free choice.
We never disclose names or any other information about you unless we first have written permission. If you decide to disclose your personal information on any other areas around the internet such as message boards, other support groups, websites, blogs or networking sites such as facebook, twitter myspace and any other areas, you do this as free choice.
Advice from a Professor of Urology in the UK: Surgeons (doctors) must never divulge anything at all to any third party without the consent of the person involved. In contrast, patients are perfectly at liberty to discuss their own situation with whoever they please. Discussing your own situation with someone else is your right, as you have initiated it (by definition, that is with your own consent). Thus you are entitled to seek advice if you wish, and you can take whichever route you feel suits you best, based on your assessment of advice you receive.
To summarise, there is been NO breach of confidentiality, and you talking to someone else about your situation (or them visiting you in hospital if you invited them) would not be a breach of confidentiality either.
It is not easy for us to recognise who is genuine and who is not when people join our support group this is why we only accept registered members into our support group. We do not know everyone personally and it can be very difficult for us to know who to fully trust and pin-point who is genuine. Our support group is an extremely serious group with people who have severe health problems and we want to ensure everyone is given the right support and advice from the right people within the group. We have a few professional fully accredited people to help those in need of emotional support, one of those people is Hayley Martin and you will find her on the message board with the username: Hayley-01
Anyone found to be promoting medical products, advertising websites, recommending surgeons without our permission, promoting alternative treatments, dishing out medical advice to other members, sending medical material to members without first us seeing it, or causing any disruption on the message board and to other members in our support group will be permantely removed. This goes for any spammers who try to disrupt our work, your IP address, Email and username will be banned and permanently removed from our database.
Other areas around the internet: Unfortunately some people are very devious and will pretend to be genuinely concerned when in fact they are collating information from you for their own research, they could be doctors disguising, manufacturers or anyone trying to access your details and saving your data without your permission and without privacy protection. Please ensure your data is protected.
All we are saying is please be aware of who you correspond with especially concerning your health issues. We are not here to give medical advice in any way although we can try and put you in contact with medical experts to help you. The only people to give medical advice is a Professional Medical Expert like a surgeon, GP, Consultant and others who are fully qualified and experts in their field of medicine and do not seek medical advice from anyone else.
Please see our support group as a way to have emotional support only, we are here to help you as a friend so you are not sat at home alone. When you first approach TVT Mum for help and advice we will give you the support and point you in the right direction for the best expert advice. It is your own personal choice to share your TVT experiences with others on the message board and also to make new friends who really do care.
Your TVT experience also helps us with our own research to understand what the full extent of the problems are with these medical devices. We can assure you all - you are fully protected by the TVT Mum Data Protection Policy and your information is never shared with third parties without your permission and written consent.
The only persons authorised to counsel for emotional support is Hayley Martin and myself Lorraine Evans. If you decide to share your medical history with another sufferer on the message board we cannnot accept responsibility if things go wrong. We hope this helps you to make the decision on who is the best person to help you.
We have some members in our support group who decide to have full privacy this is why you will not see all our members on the message board and I feel sure many people will understand the reasoning to do this considering this is such a delicate and taboo subject concerning your health and the problems with TVT's and Meshes.
We hope everyone understands the situation with Data Protection as we really want you all to feel safe and secure sharing your TVT experiences whilst in our support group.
If you have any concerns please contact Lorraine Contact us >>>
You will see and hear from people who decided not to go ahead with surgery after reading our website. They have been saved from harm!
